WHY MARIO IGLESIAS?
As a College Baseball Advisor
Mario is arguably the most experienced “advisor” in the industry with 15+ years of experience in helping players commit to colleges.
Despite being the first in his family to attend college, Mario was admitted to Stanford University after graduating from Hayward High School. He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles but declined the MLB offer in order to attend Stanford. After struggling athletically and academically for the first few years, he composed and solid junior year, thrived, and pitched in Omaha at the College World Series. He was also drafted again by the Anaheim Angels but declined to stay in school and graduate.
His senior year earned him a place in the Stanford record books with a 10-1 record and he was drafted by the Chicago White Sox. After signing, he pitched professionally for five years (including a 13-1 season), was traded to the Baltimore Orioles, pitched in an All-Star Game, and finished in AAA with the Chicago Cubs. Little did he know that his time at Stanford and in pro baseball was preparing for his future of working with thousands of young players and helping them work toward their goal of playing college baseball! After his playing career, Mario worked as an agent with the agency that represented him (Sosnick Cobbe Sports), created one of the largest and most successful youth baseball organizations (Headfirst Baseball West Coast, INC), returned to Stanford as a coach, and has helped hundreds of players navigate their way to a college campus.
As a “Personal Growth Coach”
Though widely recognized as a “baseball person” the greatest area that Mario has brought value is helping players and families through their baseball journey OFF the field. This specific baseball journey is characterized by disappointment and failure for all players. Though baseball is said to be a highly “mental game” it is safe to say that most players spend 99.9% of their energy on physical development. This is where Mario’s insight and help have made a difference over the years. While players and families often look at what is directly in front of them, Mario’s background as a Psychology Major at Stanford University combined with 20+ years of helping players and families navigate through youth baseball has created a very specific and helpful expertise. The bottom line is that parents and players often need somebody to talk to in order to create a positive mindset to redefine “success” and actually enjoy this journey!
